FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Sophomore guard Anthony Shelton (Cary, NC) tied a game-high 19 points in the Broncos 55-65 loss to Saint Augustine's University; while Tyrrel Tate(Raleigh, NC) added 13. Fayetteville State (8-12 Overall, 3-8 CIAA, and 0-5 Division) struggled at the free throw line making 11-of-23 attempts (47.8%). The game hinged on seven score ties and eight lead changes. The Falcons walked away with the victory with an 80% advantage (16-of-20) at the free throw line.
Saint Augustine's (15-6, 8-3, and 5-0) also capitalized on second chance opportunities with 15 points compared to FSU's seven. The Broncos were 38.8% (19-of-49) in field goals and 30% (6-of-20) in three-pointers. The Falcons were 38.5% (20-52) and 45% (9-of-20).
Tyquan Stroman had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons while Percy Woods added 11.
FSU held first half advantages in the score (37-32), points off turnovers (13-5), and points in the paint (12-10). The Broncos failed to hold any after intermission. St. Augustine's had the points of turnovers edge (9-2) and points in the paint (8-2).
Fayetteville State will play host to Johnson C. Smith in another televised game on Saturday at 4:00 pm. Saint Augustine's will travel to Winston-Salem State.
