Fayetteville State Drops A 78-62 Televised Game to Livingstone

Fayetteville, NC - Willie Gilmore put the Broncos on his back with a 24-point performance, but it was not enough as Fayetteville State dropped the first of two CIAA television games. Livingstone defeated FSU 78-62 in the Felton J. Capel Arena.

Fayetteville State (4-14 overall and 1-6 in the CIAA) had a slow start as Livingstone led 43-25 at halftime.

The Broncos had a better second half, outscoring the Blue Bears by two points (37-35), but couldn't overcome the first half deficit. FSU made a run to open the second half to trail by nine (49-40) at the 13:38 mark. The Broncos was eight points behind with 12:11 left and a score of 51-43 and held on to trail by ten (64-54) with 6:42 left in the game.

Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC) scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, making 5-of-9 field goals and 6-of-8 free throws.

Joshua Smith (Fayetteville) was the only other Bronco to score in double-digits with 17 points.  Javen McNeill scored eight points and William Tibbs scored seven points.  

Livingstone improved to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Cameron Burhannon led the way with 20 points. Rashard Todd helped the win with 15 points and Ray Roger added 14. Lydell Elmore was the fourth Blue Bear to score 11 points.



Fayetteville State will travel to Winston-Salem State on Wednesday, January 24th for a 7:30 pm matchup in the C.E. Gaines Center.
