Junior Jamel Austin scored 21 points and sophomore Andy Gebru added 18 points as Fayetteville State University outlasted St. Paul's College 98-90 in overtime at the Capel Arena. This was the first overtime for the Broncos this season.
The outcome wasn't decided until FSU made their last six free throws in overtime, increasing their lead to 10 points. St. Paul's missed two three-pointers in the closing stretch, which left the game out of reach for them.
Guard Jack Browne led the Tigers in the game with 21 points and 18 rebounds. The Tigers out-rebounded the Broncos (49-40) and committed less turnovers. However, the Broncos success from behind the three point line was too much for the Tigers. Fayetteville State made 8 three-pointers for the game, shooting 42.1% from behind the arc, including a three-pointer in overtime which helped the Broncos created distance.
FSU improves to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the CIAA, while St. Paul's moves to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in the CIAA.
