Charles Darryl Jefferson II has an extensive and intimate knowledge of basketball in North Carolina. Jefferson will utilize his familiarity with the Tar Heel state in his first year as an assistant coach at Fayetteville State University.

Prior to joining head coach Alphonza Kee's staff, Jefferson was a graduate assistant at Grambling State University in Grambling, La.

Jefferson's duties included assisting with the daily operations of the basketball program, coordinating travel plans, handling all film exchange, assisting with game management and working individually with post players.

Since graduating from Mount Olive College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies in 2006 - where he also played basketball for four seasons -- Jefferson has been busy.

The Jacksonville, N.C. native has made coaching stops at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. and the Massachusettes College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Ma., in addition to his time at Grambling.

Broncos' head coach Alphonza Kee said Jefferson's willingness to sacrifice to do what he loves made him an attractive candidate.

"He was a part of a (NCAA) Division II elite 8 team," Kee said. "That is an extremely elite group, so he played at a high level. He's been a part of two Division III programs and there is nothing glamorous about that. I'm really impressed about the hunger that he possesses. He's a guy that is a role model to my young people"

For the Broncos, Jefferson will handle a myriad of tasks.

"He's going to be diverse on the staff," Kee said. "He should really be able to relate with young people as far as the recruiting aspect goes. He's going to handle academics and he has started a study hall. Academics are big on his plate. As far as the basketball, he'll be dealing with the frontcourt players."

Kee said having Jefferson on staff was an honor.

"I'm extremely fortunate to have quality people of high character and integrity," Kee said. "They are passionate about college basketball, passionate about the CIAA and passionate about making an impact. I'm as lucky as I can be."
