HAMPTON, Va. -- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, in conjunction with the CIAA Faculty Athletic Representatives' Association (CIAA-FARA), has crunched the numbers, and the final team grade point averages for the 2011-2012 Fall and Winter seasons are in.

And Fayetteville State student-athletes are near the top of the class.

GPA's are calculated by the previous two semesters, and are evaluated by the CIAA-FARA. The continued commitment of the CIAA to the academic success of its student-athletes falls in line with the mission of Division II -- to create "Life in the Balance". The Division emphasizes sportsmanship, passion, balance, resourcefulness, learning and service.

Fayetteville State's men's and women's cross country teams each topped the sports in academics.

The Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos finished their 2011 season with a 3.77 average and an 11th-place finish (213) in the CIAA Championship. This season, FSU fielded a team of three freshmen, one sophomore and one junior.

The Broncos claimed the highest GPA on the men's side, finishing the Fall semester with a 3.44 GPA. Fayetteville State finished seventh in the 2011 CIAA Men's Cross Country championship and fields five freshman runners and one senior.

The Broncos were coached this year by James Williams.
