FLORENCE, SC -- The Fayetteville State men's cross country team defeated Paine College by 37 points in the Francis Marion Cross Country Invitational. Presbyterian won the overall five-kilometer race at the Freedom Florence Recreational Complex with 38 points. Methodist finished with a close second with 39. Host Francis Marion had a third place score of 62 while the Broncos followed with 97. Paine had a total score of 134.
Junior runner Ernest Hawkins led the Broncos with a third place finish in 17:27.384. His average pace was 5:38 per mile. Eduardo Riera and Sydney Machokoto of Methodist were the top two finishers with times of 17:13.384 and 17:14.384.
Branden Elmore ran a 6:17 pace to finish 20th in 19:30. Matthew Stowers was 22nd in 19:40 and Taron Sanders was 24th with a time of 20:48. Quincy Peterson secured the final scoring position for Fayetteville State with his 24:41 32nd place. Andrew Brassard finished 33rd in 24:56.
The women's squad had a solid showing; finishing fifth overall. Host Francis Marion won the 5K with 34 points. Their top four scorers finished 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th. Presbyterian and USC Aiken finished second and third with 45 and 48 points, respectfully. Methodist had a 108-point score while Fayetteville State finished with 128.
Renee Guischard led the way for the Lady Broncos with a 22nd finish in 25:23 with an average pace of 8:11. Alyssa Quinones was 25th in 26:07 and a pace of 8:25. Brittany Wilkins and Taylor Norris ran in close proximity and finished 28th and 29th in times of 27:07 and 28:32. Bria Wilkins and Erica Rodriguez ran as a pair and finished 30:24 for 31st and 32nd place.
