CHARLOTTE, NC – The Fayetteville State cross country team recently participated in the Queens Royals XC Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park. The men’s cross country team finished 18th at the meet while the women placed 24th.
The men’s cross country team finished with a total of 549 points, while the women tallied 761 points. Liberty University captured the team competition on the men’s side with 19 points, and was followed in the top five by Western Carolina University, Spartanburg Methodist College, Elon University and Mount Olive College. Duke University won the women’s competition with 56 points. Davidson College, Florida State University, Liberty University and Western Carolina University rounded out the top five behind the Blue Devils.
Ernest Hawkins (Jr., Raleigh, NC) was the top finisher for the FSU men as he placed 119th with a time of 28:35.4. Douglas Jackson (So., Atlanta, GA) followed Hawkins in 123rd place as he posted a time of 28:44.5. Ervin Brinkley (Jr., Enfield, NC) ran the course in 34:19.3 and finished in 170th place. Brandon Elmore (So., Fayetteville, NC) was the next Bronco to cross the finish line as he recorded a 173rd place finish and time of 35:55.4. Taron Sanders posted a time of 36:32.7 and recorded a 177th place finish. Anthony Mullen (So., Newport News, VA) and Quincy Peterson (So., Washington, DC) rounded out the competition for Fayetteville State. Mullen finished in 178th place with a time of 36:53.1, and Peterson ran a 38:17.5 for a 185th place finish.
Amanda Anderson (So., Hope Mills, NC) was the leading runner for the Lady Broncos as she finished in 183rd place with a time of 23:52.3. Renee Guischard (Fr., Fayetteville, NC) finished next for Fayetteville State in 200th place and a time of 26:02.8. Brittany Wilkins (Fr., Greenville, NC) posted a time of 28:12.4 for a 206th place finish, and Chiquanna Anderson followed in 208th place with a time of 28:53.2. Nia Trawick was the final finisher for Fayetteville State as she ran a 34:38.4 for a 215th place finish.
FSU will wrap up its season on Thursday, Oct. 18 as it travels to Cary, NC to participate in the CIAA Championships. The event will be held at WakeMed Soccer Park.
