FSU Men Finish 11th At HBCU Challenge

CARY, NC – Ernest Hawkins (Jr., Raleigh, NC) recorded a season-best finish of 26th place to lead the Fayetteville State men’s cross country team at the HBCU Challenge as the Broncos finished in 11th place out of 15 teams. The event was held at the WakeMed Soccer Park as part of the Great American XC Festival.
Norfolk State captured the overall victory at the HBCU Challenge, while North Carolina A&T, St. Augustine’s, Hampton and Benedict rounded out the top five finishers. Lincoln (PA) followed in sixth place, Winston-Salem State finished in seventh place, Shaw recorded an eighth place finish, and Bowie State and Virginia State were ninth and tenth, respectively. Johnson C. Smith, Chowan, North Carolina Central and Livingstone rounded out the competition on the men’s side.
Hawkins has been the top finisher for Fayetteville State in each of its first three meets of the season, as he placed 26th with a time of 6:46.3. Douglas Jackson (So., Atlanta, GA) turned in a season-best performance as he finished right behind Hawkins in 27th place with a time of 7:12.6. Anthony Mullen (So., Newport News, VA) finished in 75th place for the Broncos with a time of 8:26.1, while Brandon Elmore (So, Fayetteville, NC) posted a time of 8:01.6 for a 85th place finish. Taron Sanders rounded out the competition for Fayetteville State with an 87th place finish and time of 8:01.7.
The Broncos will be back in action this weekend as they participate in the Hagan Stone XC Classic in Greensboro, NC.
