CARY, N.C. - Fayetteville State's men's cross country team finished 12th while its women's team was 16th at the HBCU Challenge meet on Saturday during the Great American Cross Country Festival at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
Douglas Jackson was the top finisher for the Broncos in the men's 8-kilometer event, crossing the finish line in 29 minutes, 50.9 seconds. Rounding out the FSU order were Greg Eatmon (50th, 30:39.5), Ervin Brinkley (68th, 32:19.4), Joshua Morales (86th, 35:32.9) and Quincy Peterson (87th, 35:40.7).
Winston-Salem State's Andrew Chebii-Singh won the race in 25:22.9.
In the women's 5K race, Fayetteville State was paced by Keisha Edwards (68th, 23:51.0). The other Lady Broncos' finishers were Samantha Meeks (79th, 25:25.8), Jasmin White (88th, 26:39.1), Rebecca Polaschek (97th, 29:04.4) and Mekia Young (31:23.4).
N.C. Central's Amber Brooks won the race in 19:05.3.
The meet also served as a dual match between Shaw and Fayetteville State, with the Bears prevailing in both races.
