GREENSBORO, N.C. - Fayetteville State's men's and women's cross country teams competed in a meet at Greensboro's Hagan Stone Park on Saturday.
The Broncos' men's team, led by Ernest Hawkins' 32nd-place finish (30:47.45) in a race that featured more than 90 runners, placed eighth out of 11 teams and ahead of fellow CIAA foe Johnson C. Smith.
Also placing in the 8-kilometer race for Fayetteville State were Douglas Jackson (39th, 31:36.24), Greg Eatman (54th, 34:54.52), Ervin Brinkley (65th, 35:40.43) and Joshua Moraks (76th, 38:09.57).
Virginia Commonwealth won the meet while Lees-McRae was second and Winston-Salem State was third. The Rams' Andrew Chebli-Singh won the race in 26:46.13.
The Lady Broncos were led by Keisha Edwards' 57th-place finish (24:58.30) in the 5-kilometer race. Samantha Meeks (71st, 26:14.70), Jasmin White(84th, 28:54.38) Rebecca Polaschek (93rd, 31:32.76) and Mekia Young (100th, 34:58.23) rounded out the Fayetteville State squad, which finished 11th overall, just ahead of Johnson C. Smith.
Northern Kentucky won the meet, with Virginia Commonwealth second and Lees-McRae third. VCU's Hailey Scheren (20:08.92) won the race.
