MT. OLIVE, N.C. - The Fayetteville State men's and women's cross country teams opened their respective seasons over the weekend at the Mt. Olive Cross Country Invitational.

Both of the Broncos' teams placed third in the event, with Mt. Olive prevailing in both meets and St. Andrews taking second in both.

The Lady Broncos were led by Keisha Edwards (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica), who placed 16th overall. Samantha Meeks (Sr., Laurinburg, N.C.) was 19th while Rebecca Polaschek was 22nd, Mekia Young was 23rd and Achari Mainor (Sr., Antioch, Calif.) was 24th.

The men's team was led by last season's top runner, Ernest Hawkins (So., Enfield, N.C.), who placed 15th overall. Douglas Jackson was 18th while Ervin Brinkley was 23rd and Greg Eatmon was 24th.

Mt. Olive's Chelsea Long won the women's race while Mt. Olive's Paul Hoffman won the men's race.

The Broncos will compete again on Sept. 24 at the 28th Annual Greensboro Invitational at Hagan Park.
