Fayetteville, N.C. -- The Fayetteville State University Department of Athletics will offer twelve different youth camps during the summer months of June and July. Sports Camps will be hosted in the areas of boys and girls basketball, track & field, tennis, football, volleyball, cheerleading, and softball. Camps will be conducted by members of the coaching staff and available to the entire community.
The FSU Men’s Basketball program, led by Head Coach Ken Spencer, will open the summer with a three-day boys’ camp from June 11th through the 13th. The camp is available for middle school boys through their senior year of high school. The focus of the camp is to develop the fundamental knowledge and advance the skill level of each player. The camp will be held in the Felton J. Capel Arena from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of the camp is $50 for pre-registered campers and $65 on the first day of camp.
CIAA Women’s Cross-Country Coach of the Year and former Olympian Inez Turner will lead a track & field camp for boys and girls ranging from middle to high school. FSU is offering a three-session at $40 each, which covers a Sprint and Agility Camp on Wednesday, June 12th; a Distance Camp on Thursday, June 13th; and a Jumpers and Throwers Camp on Friday, June 14th. Campers interested in attending all three sessions will receive the discounted rate of $100. The sessions will be held at the Reid Ross track & field facility from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
FSU women’s basketball program and Head Coach Serena King-Coleman is providing an opportunity for middle school girls through high school to learn and/or improve their current knowledge and ability for the game of basketball. Players will work on shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense and how to take their individual skill set in those areas to the next level. The three-day camp in Capel Arena will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 20th through the 22nd at a pre-registration rate of $50 and a regular rate of $65 on the day of the camp.
A tennis camp for boys and girls led by Head Coach Erika Gee Harris will also be held from June 20-22 from 8:30 a.m. until 12 noon on the Capel Arena Tennis Courts. Campers ranging from middle to high school will have the opportunity to learn the game of tennis (beginners) or sharpen their current game skills (intermediate). This camp is targeted for both recreational and tennis team success at the next level. Tennis campers will have the opportunity to pre-register at $50 or register after June 5th at the rate of $65.
The football coaching staff led by head coach Richard Hayes will be hosting two separate camps starting with the Prospect Camp on June 28th and June 29th. The Prospect Camp will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon and will cost $40 for registration. The camp is targeted for rising high school seniors.
The second camp will be a one-day 7-on-7 Team Camp on Friday, June 29th. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the cost of $150 per team.
Head women’s volleyball coach Reeshemah Johnson will host the Broncos seventh annual FSU Volleyball Camp. The camp is designed to offer young ladies the opportunity to learn, improve, and refine their fundamental skills of volleyball in a positive and fun atmosphere. The two-day beginners/intermediate camp is open to girls ages 9-18 from July 11-12 at a registration fee of $90. The three-day advanced camp is open to girls ages 13-18 from the 11th to the 13th at a rate of $120 per camper. The sessions will be conducted from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The early registration deadline is June 29th.
The 18th annual “Cheer Phi Smoov” cheerleading camp will be held on Saturday, July 21st in Capel Arena from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The fun-filled camp is open to youth ages four and up and will emphasize confidence, coordination and body control, dance numbers, and basic stunt skills. The Department of Athletics will partner with the Fayetteville/Cumberland Parks & Recreation to host a youth softball camp at the 121 Lamon Street Ballpark from July 16th through the 20th. The camp will be conducted from 9 a.m. until 12 noon and is available for youth ages 7-17. Registration is available at all recreation centers at a fee of $30 per person.
