Several FSU performers had top finishes

Fayetteville State University qualified 15 performers in the running of the 16th Annual Leroy T. Walker Invitational Track and Field meet in Durham, North Carolina. Senior Darryl Barnett, competing in the long jump, and freshman Edward Graham, throwing the shot put and discus; had the best showings. Barnett was fourth in his event with a 6.76m leap and Graham threw the shot put 11.49m, good for fourth place. Graham also had a fifth-place finish in the discus throw with a toss of 31.09m. In the triple jump, Lucius McCravin was seventh with a leap of 13.23 m.

Teams participating in the track and field events included North Carolina Central University, Shaw University, Saint Augustine's College, Saint Paul's College, Livingstone College, Johnson C. Smith University and the University of the District of Columbia. Other Fayetteville State's top performers:

Bobby Wilder, 100 meter dash. He ran the distance in 11.03 good for sixth place.
• Ernest Cox ran the 800 meter run in 2:04.84 for a seventh place finish.
• Two Broncos, Frank Bentley and John Mahan, placed in the 400 meter dash, covering the 53.67 and 56.17 respectively. Bentley was 18th and Mahan was 23rd.
• In the 200 meter dash, five Fayetteville State runners posted good times. Howard Fuller was 24th with a time of 23.58. Pierre Clay covered the time in 24.18 for a 30th place finish and Brad Woods was 32nd with a 24.39 time. John Mahan and Lionel Garland placed 35th and 36th, respectively. Mahan had a time 24.99 and Garland had a 25.20.
• Fayetteville State's 4 x 100 meter "A" relay team finished second. Carrying the batons were Howard Fuller, Darryl Barnett, Pierre Clay and Bobby Wilder. They cover the distance 42.63 seconds. The "B" team consisting of Jeffery Cox, Lucius McCravin, Frank Bentley and Brad Woods was sixth covering the distance in 44.89 seconds.
