John Townsend has been the Head Athletic Trainer at Fayetteville State University since September 2005. After growing up around the world as the son of an Air Force navigator, he attended fours years of undergraduate school in Orlando, FL and received a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training with honors from the University of Central Florida in May 2003. From there he went on to graduate school at Montana State University - Billings and earned a Master of Science in Sport Management in May of 2005 following defense of his thesis "The Effects of Central Fatigue on Proprioception and Dynamic Balance in the College Athlete." He joined the Bronco family the following fall and has enjoyed the time spent working to keep FSU's student-athletes healthy.

Mr. Townsend has worked with several sports medicine teams including coverage of many different high school and college teams, several Walt Disney World marathons, the National Youth Sports Program, the Rotary Gridiron Classic College Football All-Star game, Universal Cheerleading Association, and Universal Dance Association. Mr. Townsend has also been a mentor for local high school students and works diligently to promote the field of athletic training. He is a certified athletic trainer (ATC) through the BOC and licensed by the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners (LAT).

He currently resides in Hope Mills, NC with his wife Meagan and son Simon Robert.
