Come Support the Fight Against Breast Cancer
The Fayetteville State Department of Athletics has announced the hiring Kevin Wilson as the Assistant Athletics Director for Development & Marketing.
"The addition of Kevin, along with his expertise and energy, is what Fayetteville State needs to sustain the department of athletics and move it forward," comments Director of Athletics Dr. Edward McLean. "He has made an immediate impact in redeveloping a foundation for the Broncos that will excel FSU as a leader within the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Division II and the community."
Wilson will be responsible for overseeing all athletics development and marketing initiatives including the annual fund, major and planned giving, and corporate sponsorships. Wilson will also work closely with Institutional Advancement to identify prospective donors, and assist with formulating solicitation strategies for each potential donor, ways of giving, negotiating the policies and procedures for administration of their gifts.
"I am humbled and eager to work with this outstanding staff, Bronco faithful, and the city of Fayetteville," said Wilson. "I also want to thank Dr. McLean for seeing fit to grant me this opportunity and I look forward to enhancing the Fayetteville State student-athlete experience, growing the FSU brand, and engaging anyone who believes in FSU."
Prior to his arrival at FSU, Wilson served as the Assistant Director for Development at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). In his role as Assistant Director, he was responsible for assisting primarily with the day-to-day operation of the Eagle Club; a comprehensive fund-raising organization responsible for procuring funds to support the NCCU Athletics program. During that time, Wilson helped grow the membership to over 400 members which resulted to over half a million dollars donated towards student-athlete scholarships.
Wilson also secured the first Athletics Endowment since NCCU's successful transition to Division-I and established corporate partnerships with A Plus Group, LLC, NCCU Bookstore, and Champps Americana, which is the current home of their weekly athletics talk show. Wilson also collaborated with all NCCU athletic programs, including the E-Varsity Club to cultivate student-athletes, alumni, parents, and friends in addition to maintaining the official NCCU Eagle Club website. Wilson's commitment to the student-athlete and the Development profession has been rewarded on several occasions during his time at NCCU. He was named a Virginia Carter Scholarship Award winner by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 2011 and a NAADD Diversity Award recipient in 2012.
Prior to joining the NCCU Development staff, Wilson earned his Master's in Athletics Administration while serving as the Director of Basketball Operations for the NCCU Men's Basketball team. He was responsible for the daily administration of the program and assisted with student-athlete development, community involvement, travel and NCAA compliance issues.
Prior to his professional career, Wilson attended Duke University where he was a 3-year letterman in football under then Head Coach Ted Roof. He graduated in 2006 after completing a major in Philosophy and minor in African American studies. After graduation, he gained valuable legal experience in the public and private sectors serving as a legal assistant intern with both the Durham and Alamance District Attorney's Offices.
Wilson also worked as a transactional sports paralegal with one of the top Boston-based law firms in Ropes & Gray, LLP where he handled various tax and record keeping responsibilities for coach's limited liability companies. He also conducted legal research for negotiations for Tony Dungy's succession contract prior to his retirement as the Head Coach for NFL's Indianapolis Colts.
A native of Riverdale, GA, Wilson is an active member in several professional organizations including the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA), CASE, the Guyana Association of Georgia (GAOG), and the National Association of Athletics Development Directors (NAADD). He is a proud alumnus of the NCAA Minority Leadership Institute (2011) and proudly serves as the NAADD Conference Representative for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) and the Peach Belt Conference (PBC).
Wilson is married to S. Lavi Wilson, LCAS-P, LCSW, MSSW, who currently works at Wake Forest University as the Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator in the Student Health Department.
