The Fayetteville State athletic department has announced that it has hired Wesley Herring as the new Assistant Sports Information Director.
"We are extremely excited about have Wesley joining the staff. His experience within the Sports Information office at Winthrop will allow us to expand our services", comments Adrian Ferguson, FSU Assistant AD for Media Relations.
Herring, a native of Dillon, SC, comes to the Broncos after serving as the Media Relations Assistant at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC since 2008. Prior to that, Herring was a Student Assistant in the Winthrop Media Relations office for two years. His primary sport responsibilities with the Eagles were women's soccer and baseball, while also assisting on courtside statistics for volleyball, and men's and women's basketball. Herring also served as the media relations contact for the men's and women's tennis teams at Winthrop.
"I am honored to be a part of the Bronco family," said Herring. "I want to thank Adrian Ferguson for the opportunity to work for such a great university and athletic department, and look forward to being part of the CIAA and all of the dedicated individuals that are a part of it."
He received his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Winthrop in 2008 where he earned the NASSP Award and named the Sport Management Intern of the Year.
Herring is a 2004 graduate of Dillon High School where lettered in both football and soccer. He earned two junior varsity letters and two varsity letters in football, while lettering four years in varsity soccer. Herring played football under head coach Jackie Hayes, where he started on the offensive line during his senior season. He also received All-Region honors as well in 2004 for soccer.
He is the oldest son of Ronnie and Sandy Herring and has one brother, Kyle, and one sister, Caroline.
