FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) celebrated Valentine’s Day in style by holding a party for members of the Woodlands Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville. A total of 13 student-athletes made the short trip over to Woodlands and helped with various elements of the party.
The 13 student-athletes in attendance were: Dasnii Curtis, Nia Trawick, Samantha Ledbetter, JaMisha Jordan, Joi Emanuel, Andre Montgomery, John Brown, Antonio Mayo, Ervin Brinkley, Douglas Jackson, Britney Whitehead, Serena Hall and Bria Robinson.
Camelia Blake, Assistant A.D. for Compliance/SWA, says that spending the afternoon at the center was a very rewarding experience for the student-athletes because many of them had never visited a nursing home before. It was also gratifying, according to Blake, to see the reaction on the patients’ faces when they arrived at the center.
“It was truly a heartfelt moment when the patients smiled because someone thought to come see them on Valentine’s Day,” she said. “For some student-athletes it was their first time in a nursing home. I do believe the student-athletes, as well as the patients, enjoyed themselves and we look forward to doing it again. Showing love to the world starts in your community first.”
The party began with the student-athletes serving snacks for the party including cake and ice cream. Entertainment was provided in the form of music as a karaoke machine played various songs during the festivity.
